Good News

Is there ever any on this site about Urb La Marina? It would scare the sh*t out of people coming here Burglaries yes there are, is it worse than most areas of Spain orthe UK NO. Common sense in most cases prevents them although like everywhere else you cant legislate for opportunists.
30kph Speed Limit I'm sure in the small print of some publication the council will have published its intention regarding this. I make the point there are plenty of 20MPH speed limits in the UK mostly in housing estates and near schools, remembering in 4 weeks time the Urbanisation will be awash with holidaymakers (if you haven't scared them off) and hire cars with strangers driving them, now tell me who hasn't had a near miss at various junctions on the Urb.
Now the facts are La Marina has a great climate, lots of great bars and restaurants a great beach and in fact very friendly and diverse people on the Urb who will be happy to chat in the bars etc given the opportunity, if somebody hasn't phoned to complain about the noise .
And in closing can I just say a big thank you to Tommy who in fact along with the council are in fact trying to do something positive. If you have nothing positive to say don't bother responding to this posting.

weejohnten.
I doubt the information on the speed limit reduction was even put in small print anywhere by the Council,(They dont mind large pieces on there web-site advertising fiestas and parties etc)because mainly people are in favour, but anything that may not be liked,by the residents is normally done quietly.Even after the signs have been painted,I still havnt seen anything from the council announcing how the new speed limits will work (i.e is it so many metres from the sign.or will one sign mean the whole of that road)You also refer to the 20 mph limit in the U.K these are few and far between, and roughly equate to 30kph,so you seem to be saying the whole of the Urb.should have a speed limit of just over 20mph..Drive down roads like the bottom road at that speed and see how many cars stay behind you.I am not against reasonable speed limits if they serve a safety purpose, but to suddenly wake up to lower speed limits overnight smells of Council skullduggery,We have had them in the past (streets becoming one way overnight, cars parking against the flow of traffic.)
Also I believe it is sensible to notify people of a sudden spate of robberies and burglaries,if only to make sure people are alert, and yes it would also be good if people also say that generally La Marina Urb is a safe and nice place to be,problem is people generally only read bad news, because that is a lot rarer than good news

Bad news sells and keeps the gossip and rumours going

Well said Weejohnten,
I joined this forum trying to find out info on the Urb, will be over in 3 weeks time. It is really unnerving to keep reading about burglaries, though I feel sorry for anyone who has to experience this.
I am looking forward to trying the restaurants, bars and shops on the Urb as well as a visit to Alicante. The thing I'm most looking forward to is the lovely weather and hopefully some friendly faces.
Regards,
Jeanette.

I would say, very well said. We do live in a lovely place with some lovely people. So enjoy it while you can. Lets hope the music thing will be sorted FOR ALL BARS, as some dont seem to have a problem.

I can confirm the "Music Thing" has been sorted out, all bars & restaurants now have an agreement with the town hall & the presidents association to allow live music within the guidelines set out at the meeting in the social center last Thursday afternoon with president of the presidents association. If anyone would like to see the guidelines, we have a copy on our information board at the Hog's Head.

Paul
At the risk of being cheeky any chance you could post it on here so the scandal mongers are in no doubt as to the agreement, If not no panic they can just if they have the inclination stroll down to the Hogs Head and have a look.
cheers John

You obviously have not been paying attention? Tommy sorted out this music problem for us all a few weeks ago! This is not news, it is history, is it not?
There are no scandal mongers here, we are trying to deal with the facts as they are or are not presented to we the electorate on this Urb.

I am well aware Tommy and the council came to agreement and was accepted by the bars who were present at the social centre last week. But do you know what the agreement was/is do other people on here know? or will they just make it up as they go along. That was the reason for asking Paul to post it on here nothing more, perhaps the council should have done that whilst explaining the new speed limits but hey ho.
I say again we are lucky to live here, nice climate, nice bars, nice people, and in general a great place to stay .
