XMAS FAYRE IN AID OF THE NEEDY OF SAN FULGENCIO AND LA MARINA

I would just like to say a big thank you to everyone who came to the xmas fayre yesterday at the back of AJ's bar. It was a great success, even though quite a lot of the stalls didnt turn up. The atmosphere was great and a grand sum of approx 300€ was raised, this will now be spent on food for the needy, which Pete and I will get this week. The receipts will be left in the town hall on Calle Madrid for anyone to see. A big thanks to AJ's for allowing us to have our fund raising events out the back of their bar, and I would like to wish, Barb, Nikki and all the staff good luck for the future, as they will be closing this Friday.

La Marina

OOOO mixed emotions, very well done on your Christmas Fete Pauline, hope I won a raffle prize lol, but sad news re. AJ's, they have worked so hard to try and keep open :-(

I would also like to add my very best to Babs Nikki and the staff, La Marina just won't be the same without them. I wish them well in whatever they now do.

I would also like to say a big Thank You to Pauline and Peter for all their hard work they do for those less fortunate than us. La Marina should count itself very lucky to have such honest and upstanding members in the community

I wish you good luck too.

Thank you for your idea of making cheap daily dishes. It was very inspiring for me as I am new to being an owner of a café. Especially at times like now ideas of how to make things better are very welcome.

After digesting recent posts two phrases spring to my mind,  NOT A  LEVEL PLAYING FIELD, AND, IT'S DOG EATS DOG!
Shops close because they cannot compete with others, bars close because they cannot compete with others, people in other trades are put out work by others, why, because they cannot compete!
Some people try to do things the legal way, they are on the padron, they have residencias, paying taxes and social security,  registered with Servef, public liability insurance, etc. etc.  They cannot compete with the OTHERS that are NOT registered in Spain, NOT paying taxes, NOT insured in any way, (therefore their clients and in many cases THEIR EMPLOYERS have no recompense), all the NON LEGAL bar workers, entertainers, builders etc., those that receive pay under the counter, undeclared income,  they are playing a dangerous game with the public and contributing to Spains black economy, a black economy which has taken the country down towards financial oblivion.
The system is catching up on those that are working illegally and it's about time too!

It sad to hear another inexpensive and good bar is closing down.
I had a few breakfasts and lunches with you, but onviously not enough to allow you to remain open.
I wish you luck in all you do from hereon in and hope to see you around the urb in the future.
